The “Strings for Newtown” concert in Newtown will take place at 3:00 p.m. on December 1st, 2013 at the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street. It will feature Mark O’Connor, Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, Bruce Molsky, Julie Lyonn Lieberman, Laraaji Venus, Donna Hebert and Max Cohen, and members of the Norwalk Youth Symphony conducted by Richard Brooks. Your ticket purchase — whether or not you plan to attend — will go to the local charity, Healing Newtown (minus minimal expenses to run the concert).

Our top orchestra and top choral ensemble will be joining together to perform Mozart’s Lacrimosa/Lacrymosa (from the Requiem in D Minor) and the first portion of Vivaldi’s Gloria (Gloria in Excelsis Deo).
Our choral students will enter and pay tribute to those who are no longer with us as a result of the events of December 14 (perhaps by placing flowers on stage, or some other gesture).
This effort was not just the idea of the director’s of the ensembles, but also has been embraced wholeheartedly by all of the student-musicians involved.

What Will You Do For a Tribute?
We will perform a concert featuring organ, piano and string works of Bach, Kuffner, Buxtehude, Mendelssohn and others. Performers are drawn from several Schools and private studios in Central New Jersey.  There will be poetry read in dedication to  the Newtown families and to all families worldwide who suffer from violence in their communities.  Performers will include elementary age children through adults performing solos and ensembles pieces. Some of the repertoire will include Amazing Grace, Mark O’Connor’s Beautiful Skies, Bach cello suites, Bach Concerto in D minor for Two Violins and the Albinoni/Giazotti Adagio and more. Students from Princeton Public Schools will be performing as well as private students from several Central New Jersey area studio teachers.

A Promise To Remember: a community outreach concert and food packing event in honor of the victims of Newtown and children everywhere. The performance will include scenes from Connecticut Concert Ballet’s “A Promise” choreographed by director Wendy Fish-Lawrence, inspirational music by Daughters of Praise, A performance of Julie Lyonn Lieberman’s “Newtown Peace Anthem,” featuring students of Sound Crossing Studio, the Northern CT Community String Orchestra, the Suzuki Talent Education Partnership, and more. The performance will be followed by a food packing event in which performers and audience members are invited to help prepare food to be distributed by the organization Feeding Children Everywhere to hungry children.

What Will You Do For a Tribute?
The School for the Creative and Performing Arts presents “Concert for Peace.” As a dedication to the fallen angels of Newtown, SCAPA Bluegrass will be presenting a concert featuring the orchestra, dance, and art majors from SCAPA’s middle school. The art majors have created 26 angels to put on exhibit representing those lost on December 14, 2012. The orchestra and dance majors have to collaborated to create a touching concert featuring work by Vivaldi, Prokofiev, and many more, all centered around the overall theme of peace. To close the concert, the orchestra will play the “Newtown Peace Anthem” during a video about the Newtown Peace Park followed by a moment of silence to honor the victim’s of the tragedy.
